Hwamei is a popular cage bird for their attractive songs. They spend their caged lifetime mostly in darkness, where the ‘house’ is covered by a special coat. The birds sing when the coat gets lifted - the change of natural light excites them. I see the birds as if NPCs in video games, present, unchanged, throughout my childhood; there always came a replacement when one died, without me ever noticing.
